Upcoming Conventions

aXXIdental - The 21st UK national Filk convention

When: Friday 6th to Sunday 8th February 2009
Where: In Grantham, Lincolnshire, at the Grantham Ramada Hotel - as used for 1812tone and 2t0nic.
UK guest: Richard "Hitch" Wheatley.
International Guests: Rand Bellavia and Adam English of Ookla The Mok.
Committee: Miki Dennis, Mich Sampson, Peter Westhead, Rick Hewett, Mike Westhead, Mike Richards.
Membership: Full adult attending: GBP 32 / EUR 39 / USD 58. Un-waged adult, child aged 6 to 17 years: GBP 16 / EUR 20 / USD 30. Child aged 5 and under, soft toys: GBP 1 / EUR 1 / USD 2. (EUR and USD may vary with exchange rate.)
UK rates have now increased, non-UK rates will rise later but not before 10th October.

HarmUni - A second UK Filk Convention

HarmUni is a small filk con run in association with the annual UniCon.
However, the UniCon in 2008 is MeCon 11 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
It doesn't appear to be viable to run a HarmUni there, and nobody has volunteered to be on the committee.
We expect to run HarmUni again when the UniCon is nearer.

FilkCONtinental - The German Filk Convention

Our German friends also run a convention every year. The next one is FilkCONtinental 2008 which will be held on Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th October at Freusburg Castle Youth Hostel, near Freudenberg and Siegen.

The guests of honour are Margaret Davis & Kristoph Klover from San Francisco, USA.

Lots of great songs, lots of fun, lots of hugs. Nearly everyone speaks very good English, and a lot of the songs are in English. There is a strong contingent from the UK there every year.

If you want to get there by train, there is an excellent German Trains web site. Check your travel details there first. The Eurostar web site is not nearly as good!

DFDF - Das Frühlingsfest der Filksmusik - A second German Filk Convention

The Germans have announced a second filk convention. The first of these will be held on 22nd-24th May 2009 in Bad Salzdetfurth, Germany (near Hanover).

This convention will have German guests (FilkCONtinental has UK and US/Canadian guests). For the first year, the guests are Yu and Katy.

Eastercon

The UK national SF convention is held each year over the Easter weekend. There is always some filking there, though the amount can vary a lot.
The 2009 Eastercon is LX Friday 10th to Monday 13th April 2009 in Bradford.
The 2010 Eastercon is Odyssey 2010 Friday 2nd to Monday 5th April 2008 near Heathrow.
