WiGGLe

The regular monthly meetings have now finished due to low attendance.

Singing WiGGLe

The Singing WiGGLes ("SWiGGLes") are at the Aquarius Archery Club in Finchley, N2. The entrance is on the south-eastern corner of Southern Road and Lynmouth Road (you'll need an A-Z or similar - it's down side streets). Go through some big black gates and east along the drive to the clubhouse. There's parking for 10 cars on the far side of the clubhouse, or you can park in the street.

Please Note For security reasons the gates are normally kept locked. If there is no-one there you will need to phone the club house (see below).

Note Also If you are intending to be at the meeting but do not receive the "WiGGLe" newsletter, please contact me directly for some more information on the security. You can get in without this by phoning, but it will make it easier.
May 2010: This info has changed. Contact me if needed.

See the map at www.streetmap.co.uk. The orange arrow to the right of centre points to the clubhouse (marked "Pav").

East Finchley Station (Northern Line) is 5-10 minutes walk away. If you have heavy or bulky instruments to carry from the tube, phone the clubhouse on (020) 8883 7212 and we'll get someone to pick you up.

This phone number is only for while we actually have the hall. The rest of the time it will be answered by someone from the Archery club, who will probably never have heard of us and know nothing about the room booking. (But if you're a budding toxophiwotsit, give them a call!). Even when we are there, the phone will be answered "Archery Club" or "Aquarius".

From the station: Exit the station and turn left. Walk up to the first traffic island, which is a long bar across the end of Baronsmere Road. Cross the road at this island and continue up Baronsmere Road opposite. Carry on all the way to the end crossing two other roads and several side turnings. At the end the road turns left, there's a side road into a housing estate to the right, and the entrance to the Archery club is straight ahead.

By car from the North Circular: Take the A1000 turnoff and turn south towards Finchley. After one mile there is a crossroads with traffic lights. Go straight on. The road now slopes down towards the tube station. Take the second turning on the left ("Baronsmere Road") which is just before the tube station. It's quite small and is difficult to see until you are very close - it's beside the first traffic island after the lights.
Go down this road to the end. You cross two other roads (which have priority) then there's a slightly narrower bit (now called Southern Road) with some roads going off to the left. At the end the road you are on turns left, there's a side road into a housing estate to the right, and the entrance to the Archery club is straight ahead.

If you are coming from the south, you can't turn right into Baronsmere Road any more.
Go past the Tube station and continue up to the traffic lights at the junction (not the pedestrian crossing lights).
Turn right into Fortis Green and then turn right anywhere but the first turning (you can take the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th right).
Then turn left into Baronsmere/Southern Road.

Getting out again. When leaving, you can't get out down Baronsmere Road any more.
Go straight ahead down Southern Road from the club entrance (i.e. don't turn right immediately at the entrance), then turn right anywhere further down before the last section (where you can't exit). Then turn left at the main road (Fortis Green).
If you are going South, go to the traffic lights at the Great North Road (A1000) and turn left.
If you are going North to the North Circular or beyond, you can't turn right at those lights. So go round Fairlawn Avenue, the little L shaped road to the left. This is the small turning to your left just as the lights come into view. That is, turn left at the last junction before the lights, follow that road round to the right, and at the end turn right onto the A1000 and go straight ahead at the lights.

There is a charge of £25 for the hall - we pass the hat for this.

We have access to the place from about 1:30pm, but it can sometimes take a couple of hours before enough people have arrived for singing to start. Before that we sit round and chat. We have the room until late evening if we want. The actual time we finish can vary a lot. Recently we have run on very late, but at one time the meetings tended to break up at around 6 or 7 pm. No bar, but tea and coffee are available cheap. There are takeaways in the area, if there are enough people there to carry on late.

Oh, and one other note, particularly re the October meeting: The toilets are in a separate building about 50 yards from the hall, so it can be cold, dark, and possibly wet getting to them. The clubhouse and the archery range are on the top of a covered reservoir (which is why it's called "Aquarius") so an inside loo is not an option!

Tun

The general SF meeting in London, the "Tun", is in the Melton Mowbray, 18 Holborn, London, EC1N 2LE.

Meetings are usually on the First Thursday of each month with an extra one at Christmas.

The authoritative site for the meeting is Dave Langford's page. This includes detailed directions to the pub, and also to the fallback locations if there are any problems with the main pub.

The meeting runs from very early evening (about 5pm) until closing time - various filkers are there at various times during the evening.
